I have over 20 years’ experience in the analysis, design and delivery of experiential learning programmes i.e. ‘pulling behaviours’ rather than ‘pushing content’ – mainly delivering to multinational groups on a global basis. I was on the management team of a global OD practice providing bespoke leadership solutions to blue-chip organisations.
My experience in organisational development strongly favours experiential methodologies, rather than ‘death-by-powerpoint’. Whether face-to-face or virtual, learning should emotionally engage participants and expose them to others’ perceptions and their own reflection.
Clients have said that I am enthusiastic, pragmatic, genuinely interested in participants as individuals, and challenging in a non-threatening sort of way. I’m capable of having a healthy disregard for, but respectful of, clients’ job titles and ensuring that they receive data on their behaviour – from their peers and myself. I’m also able to inject warmth, humour and humanity appropriately – I don’t need to take myself too seriously to do a good job.
I don’t prescribe to any one particular philosophy but the foundation of my work is helping people understand themselves better in order to lead others better. My intention is to create ‘independent learners’; in other words, to make my presence redundant, so I’m not ‘the star of the show’!
